San Diego Padres 2010 Draft Recap

June 16, 2010

Pads second-rounder Jedd Gyorko had 73 PAs this year against left-handed pitchers. In 16 of those, he walked. In another 32, he got a hit, including 12 doubles and 5 home runs. That adds up to an OPS against lefties of 1.712. Small sample, sure, but he did post a 1.307 OPS in the same split last year. Wow.

Less inspiring is fourth-rounder Chris Bisson. Our metrics don't think much of him at second base, a total of five runs below average in his college career. His bat is solid, but only if he's on the defensive side of the defensive spectrum.

A guy our numbers like a lot better is center fielder Rico Noel. His bat didn't come to life until this year, but the rest of his game has been in place all along. In three years, he's been a wizard in the field; his 15 total runs above average in center is the sixth-best defensive mark of anyone (at any position!) in this draft class.
